About the Role

In this role, a Second Chef will support the Head Chef in preparing nutritious, well-balanced, home-cooked meals that meet residents’ dietary needs, preferences, and specialist nutritional requirements within a care home setting.

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality catering services that support residents’ health, wellbeing, and enjoyment of mealtimes.

Key Responsibilities for our Second Chef’s

●Assist the Head Chef in creating and maintaining structured cooking and cleaning schedules (daily, weekly, periodic) for all kitchen areas in line with company quality standards and CQC requirements.

●Prepare and serve meals that meet special dietary requirements, including texture modified diets, allergen free meals, diabetic, vegetarian, and culturally specific menus.

●Maintain appropriate food stock levels, rotation, and stock control procedures in the absence of the Head Chef.

●Update and manage kitchen equipment inventory, reporting maintenance issues promptly.

● Ensure all food hygiene, HACCP, COSHH, cleanliness, health & safety, and risk assessment procedures are followed to the highest standards within food preparation areas.

● Support, supervise, and guide junior kitchen staff, promoting teamwork and high catering standards within the care home.

● To understand and ensure implementation of the Care Home’s Health and Safety policy, including Emergency and Fire procedures.

● Promote safe working practices within the Care Home kitchen environment.

●Work collaboratively with care staff to ensure mealtimes are a positive and person-centred experience for residents.

Required Skills & Experience

●Promote safe working practice in the Care Home. Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Care Home.

● Adhere to all Company policies and procedures.

● Satisfactory enhanced DBS check

● Satisfactory Right to Work in the UK (must be maintained)
