A Festive Friday at Heatherfield’s Christmas Market

Last Friday, Heatherfield in Annitsford, Cramlington embraced the Christmas spirit in full as the care home opened its doors to the local community for a lively and heartwarming Christmas Market. The event ran from 10am to 4pm and welcomed a steady stream of visitors throughout the day.

Guests were invited to bring along a bauble to help decorate Heatherfield’s Christmas tree, a small gesture that created a lovely sense of shared celebration from the moment people walked through the door.

The market itself was packed with stalls showcasing an impressive array of crafts made by the residents. Visitors browsed handmade candles, home-baked cakes, and a variety of thoughtful festive items. A busy tombola stall added to the fun, while nearby tables displayed Christmas decorations, scented candles and burners, festive wreaths, and charming sweet and hot chocolate gift packs.

Staff helped keep everyone warm and cheerful by serving mulled wine, hot chocolate, mince pies, and slices of Christmas cake – classic seasonal comforts that were appreciated by all.

Live music from The Music Memory Band added to the atmosphere, filling the space with familiar tunes from years gone by and sparking smiles and nostalgia among residents, families, and visitors.

Heatherfield, a 74-bed home owned by Prestwick Care, provides residential and general nursing care, as well as specialist support for young adults with physical disabilities. Manager Fiona Payne shared how hard the residents had worked to prepare the crafts for the market, emphasising that the event was all about thoughtfulness, care, and bringing people together for the festive season.

And that’s exactly what the day achieved. The Christmas Market wasn’t just a chance to shop, it was a celebration of community, creativity, and the joy of spending time with others. Those who attended left with festive treats, handmade gifts, and a lasting sense of warmth that stretched beyond the mince pies and mulled wine.
