The event brought together football fans of all ages, providing an opportunity for residents to relive some of England’s greatest sporting moments while welcoming prospective residents and their families to explore the home’s facilities and meet the team.

Football Icon Meets Residents at Bay View House
Widely regarded as one of Newcastle United’s greatest-ever strikers, Malcolm Macdonald scored 138 goals in 258 appearances for the club and went on to represent England on the international stage.
As guest of honour at the Bay View House open day, ‘Supermac’ spent time chatting with residents, sharing memories from his distinguished football career and discussing England’s current World Cup campaign.
Residents also enjoyed a special screening of England’s famous 1966 World Cup triumph, sparking conversations about football history and personal memories of one of the nation’s most iconic sporting achievements.
Speaking about England’s recent 4-2 victory over Croatia, Macdonald praised captain Harry Kane’s performance.
“He stood out,” said Macdonald. “Not only did he do a great job of captaining, but of course he scored those two goals.”
The former striker also shared his thoughts on the tournament so far, suggesting it was still too early to predict who would lift the famous Jules Rimet Trophy.

Celebrating Community, Sport and Shared Experiences
At Prestwick Care, creating meaningful experiences for residents is a key part of everyday life. Events such as the football-themed open day help foster social connections, encourage conversation and provide opportunities for residents to engage with their passions and interests.
Football has a unique ability to bring people together, and the event proved a fantastic opportunity for residents to reminisce, share stories and enjoy time with family members, visitors and fellow supporters.
The home also displayed the Northumberland Cup, won by Whitley Bay Football Club, adding another local football connection to the day’s celebrations.
