A Summer to Remember: Celebrating Fun, Friendship and Community Across Prestwick Care

Summer has been a wonderful time of fun, friendship and community across Prestwick Care homes, with residents, families, staff and local communities coming together to enjoy a fantastic range of activities and events.

From summer fayres and sports days to nostalgic trips and football-themed celebrations, our homes across the North East have been making the most of the warmer weather and creating meaningful experiences for residents.

At Prestwick Care, we understand the importance of providing meaningful activities in care homes. Activities play an important role in supporting wellbeing, encouraging social interaction and helping residents continue to enjoy their hobbies, interests and passions.

This summer has been no exception, with plenty of opportunities to make memories together.

Annual sports day at Belle Vue House, Sunderland

Belle Vue House in Sunderland brought residents, staff and families together for their annual care home sports day, with an afternoon of games, refreshments and plenty of laughter.

Residents and guests took part in a range of activities, including hopscotch and beanbag toss, creating some friendly competition and lots of opportunities for everyone to get involved.

The summer treats continued with hot dogs, ice creams and even a refreshing beer, making it a brilliant day for residents, families and staff to spend time together.

The event was a fantastic example of how simple, familiar activities can bring people together and create positive memories in a care home setting.

A beach-themed summer day at Bede House

Bede House welcomed NAPA (The National Activity Providers Association) for a special event celebrating the fantastic work carried out by the home’s activities team.

The day provided an opportunity to showcase how meaningful engagement and activities can support a happy and fulfilled life in a care home, while giving residents, families and staff the chance to enjoy a memorable summer celebration together.

The team brought a little taste of the seaside to Ryhope with a fantastic beach-themed event. Residents enjoyed garden games including mini golf and swing ball, while a particularly realistic cold toe dip recreated the experience of dipping your feet into the nearby North Sea!

A BBQ and ice cream provided the perfect summer refreshments.

We would like to thank NAPA for spending such a wonderful day with us in sunny Ryhope. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and sharing more of the great work taking place across our homes.

You can read more about the event in Sunderland Magazine’s feature on Bede House.

The raffle was a huge success, with generous prizes donated by local community members, families and staff. In total, the event raised an incredible £870 for the residents’ fund.

There was also brilliant live entertainment from one of the home’s favourites, Kevin Finnigan, who generously performed for residents free of charge.

With lots of smiles, music and dancing throughout the day, the summer fayre was a wonderful celebration of community spirit.

The funds raised will also help support future activities and events for residents at Covent House, helping the team continue to provide a varied programme of enjoyable and meaningful experiences.

Cestria House residents visit The Hoppings

Residents and staff from Cestria House enjoyed a memorable day out at The Hoppings funfair in Newcastle.

For many residents, the trip was particularly special as The Hoppings has been part of their memories since childhood. As Europe’s largest travelling funfair, it provided a fantastic opportunity to revisit a familiar place and reminisce about days gone by.

Residents enjoyed traditional funfair games, while some even took a trip on the big wheel!

Nostalgic activities and outings like this are an important part of life in our care homes. They give residents the opportunity to revisit favourite places, share stories and memories with others, while creating new experiences to look back on.

Parklands Summer Fayre raises £800

Parklands hosted its annual summer fayre, welcoming residents, families and members of the local community for a fantastic day of summer celebrations.

The event was officially opened by Seaham’s Mayor, Milford Lingard, making the occasion even more special.

Everyone enjoyed a brilliant day, and thanks to the generosity and support of those who attended, £800 was raised towards future activities and events for residents.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the Parklands summer fayre such a success. The money raised will help the home continue to organise enjoyable activities and experiences for residents throughout the year.

Football memories at Bay View House

The event featured a very special guest appearance from Newcastle United legend Malcolm ‘Supermac’ Macdonald, giving guests the opportunity to hear from one of the Magpies’ greatest-ever number nines.

Visitors were able to explore the home’s facilities, watch England’s famous 1966 World Cup victory and hear Supermac share memories from his distinguished football career.

He also gave his thoughts on England’s recent World Cup success, praising captain Harry Kane for his leadership and goalscoring performances.
