Paula O'Connor
Home Manager
With almost 30 years of experience in mental health nursing, Paula brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the role. Beginning her healthcare career as a Nursing Auxiliary at Durham County Hospital in 1992, she went on to qualify as a Mental Health Nurse in 1997. Throughout her career, she has worked across a variety of settings including Day Hospitals, Community Psychiatric Nursing, Primary Care, and private mental health hospitals in Australia, where she also began her management career. Having spent many years working in Perth and Townsville, she returned to the UK in 2018 and has since managed nursing homes, developing a particular specialist interest in dementia care. Passionate about delivering person-centred support and enhancing quality of life for residents, she is committed to maintaining the highest standards of care. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening and spends much of her time tending to her vegetable patch, herb garden, fruit trees and greenhouse. She also keeps chickens, including Stuart the rooster, who is well known for his dislike of her husband!What We Offer

Abbey Court is a modern, spacious care home with 44 bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom, fitted furniture, interactive alarm system and mechanised bed. Assisted bath / shower rooms help aid the residents’ quality of life.
As a specialist dementia residential / nursing care service, we pay particular attention to creating a friendly environment and supporting the residents’ desire for independence with clear orientation signage and hand rails.
Internet access is available throughout as well as multi lift facilities. Lounges and dining areas are extremely spacious and dementia friendly, with breakout areas as well as private quiet rooms for residents and families.
